Warm summer evenings in Katowice are set to come alive with music and dancing as the popular Roztańczony Wyspiański series continues throughout August. Every Saturday, the square outside Teatr Śląski im. Stanisława Wyspiańskiego transforms into an open-air dance floor, welcoming everyone to join in, regardless of age or experience.
The free events have become a much-loved part of the city's summer calendar, offering residents and visitors the chance to enjoy themed evenings in the heart of Katowice while making the most of the long summer nights.
A Different Theme Every Weekend
Each Sunday brings a new musical theme, ensuring there is something to suit every taste.
The remaining dates are:
- 2 August: Disco
- 9 August: 1970s Classics
- 16 August: 2000s Hits
- 23 August: Film Soundtracks
- 30 August: Carnival Party with a salsa dance workshop
Dancing takes place from 8.00 pm until 10.00 pm, giving people the opportunity to enjoy an evening outdoors after the day's heat has eased.
Learn Some New Moves
The final event of the season on 30 August includes an added attraction with a salsa workshop led by dance instructor Magdalena Kocot. Known for her success in competitive ballroom dancing and her work with dance clubs across Silesia, she will introduce participants to salsa before the evening's carnival-themed party gets underway.
The workshop offers an ideal opportunity for beginners to try something new, while more experienced dancers can simply enjoy the atmosphere and live music.
A Summer Tradition in Katowice
While the theatre takes its seasonal break from performances, the square outside remains a lively gathering place. Rather than allowing the space to fall quiet during the holidays, the dance evenings create a welcoming setting where neighbours, families and friends can meet, dance and spend time together.
Another feature that makes the events especially interactive is the opportunity for the public to help shape each evening's playlist. Every Tuesday, followers of the theatre's Facebook page can vote for the songs they would like to hear during the upcoming themed party.
With free admission and no need for previous dance experience, the events are designed to be accessible to everyone. Whether visitors stay for a few songs or dance all evening, the emphasis is firmly on enjoying music together in one of Katowice's best-known public spaces.
